Stockland Chief Executive, Matthew Quinn, today carried out the topping out ceremony of the company’s latest iconic Glasgow development, One Waterloo Street.
Mr Quinn is visiting the UK from Stockland’s HQ in Sydney, Australia and was welcomed on site by main contractor, Miller Construction (UK) Ltd to see the progress being made on the 58,264 sq ft Grade A office accommodation.
After completing the final concrete pour on the eighth floor of the building, which offers panoramic views of the city skyline, Mr Quinn said: “I am delighted to be in Glasgow today and to lay the final pour at One Waterloo Street. We believe this project will bring a unique offer to Glasgow City Centre.”
With a BREEAM ‘Very Good’ rating and eight floors of fully air conditioned Grade A office accommodation, the development utilises dramatic architecture to create a stunning building. Glass curtain walling will ensure that the views from the building are exceptional, whilst allowing occupiers to benefit from natural light on floor plates of between 4,400 and 7,300 sq ft. One Waterloo Street also offers city centre parking for occupiers with 20 car parking spaces at basement level.
Mr Quinn, continued: “The location of this building sets it apart from similar developments, within 60 seconds of One Waterloo Street you can be at Central Station; some of the biggest retailers in the country and a huge selection of dining options.”
Robin Mackie, Chief Executive, Miller Construction, said: “We are delighted to be working with Stockland. Miller Construction has a wealth of experience working in
tight city centre environments where we conduct our business as safely and efficiently as possible with minimum disruption to local businesses and the hundreds of public who pass the site on a daily basis.
“The team at One Waterloo Street, have in actual fact exceeded our usual high standards and been scored very highly by the Considerate Constructor Scheme, which takes into account how we conduct our business in a number of key categories. The team scored 38 points from a possible 40 with the assessor describing their performance as outstanding.
“We are pleased to have been joined to day by Matthew Quinn and his fellow Directors to show them the outstanding work which has been done and we look forward to welcoming them back to see the completed product. We are making excellent progress and anticipate that we will complete the building ahead of programme enabling us to hand-over in November 2009.”
