Miller staff 'brush up' on painting skills at Inverclyde schools project
27.04.09 Company: Miller Construction
A team of twenty staff from Miller Construction (UK) Ltd’s Edinburgh head office turned off their computers and picked up paintbrushes in a bid to assist a re-vamp which is on-going at Wellington Academy, Greenock.
The company, which is the main stakeholder in the e4i (Education for Inverclyde) consortium and the main contractor for the £80m Inverclyde Schools PPP project, is giving the school a make-over in association with its supply chain partner Orr Decorators. Wellington Academy will be used as a base for the pupils of Notre Dame High School while their new school is being built.
Tom Reid, Head of Schools Estate, Inverclyde Council, said: “Using Wellington Academy whilst the new Notre Dame is being built is the best solution for the pupils. Since Wellington has lain empty for some period of time, certain areas could do with a freshen-up, and we were delighted when Miller and Orr’s stepped in and offered to do just that.
”By having the opportunity to use the Wellington Academy buildings we can ensure that we have no disruption to the school curriculum and the staff and pupils will be able to see the progress of their new school which will be ready for occupation in 2011.”
Mark Baxter, Director of Miller’s PPP Unit, said: “We are delighted to be able to assist Inverclyde Council in this way by volunteering our time to assist with such a worthwhile exercise. We are being supervised by our supply chain partners Orr Decorators, who are also donating their time and materials.”
