Ben Nevis dinner party is 'summit' to smile about

18.08.08  Company:  Miller Construction

Miller Construction staff enjoyed a dinner party with a difference on Friday when they tucked into a formal meal…at the top of Ben Nevis.

Whilst most climbers pack high-energy drinks and snacks in their rucksacks, this team of charity fundraisers went one step further by packing dinner suits, crockery, food and drink, and even a table and chairs.

The six daredevil diners organised the 4,406ft climb in a bid to raise funds for African Revival, a registered not for profit charity which provides aid and hope through sustainable projects.

Martin Smith, Operations Director, Miller Construction, who took part in the climbing expedition, said: “It took us five-and-a-half hours to ‘climb and dine’ on Ben Nevis but the dinner was delicious so we were well rewarded for our efforts!

“Our colleagues have helped our fundraising by participating in a competition to guess how long it would take us, so we look forward to seeing the money put to good use.”

The high-altitude adventure forms part of Miller Construction’s bid to win the Times Leadership Challenge – a knockout competition which aims to develop leadership skills of participants who are put in challenging and complex situations. Initially 64 teams entered and the Miller Construction team beat off stiff competition to secure a place in the semi-final. The first challenge in the semi-finals was to organise a fundraiser to assist a community school project in Malawi, and Miller Construction looks forward to contributing to this worthwhile cause with the proceeds from this event.
