Sir Chris Hoy Launches Miller Homes Skystation

26.05.10  Company:  Miller Homes

Four time Olympic champion Sir Chris Hoy MBE, was the special guest at the Miller @ Cambridge development to launch international artist Peter Newman’s public sculpture ‘Skystation’.

This public art project has been developed by cultural agency Futurecity on behalf of Miller Homes for the residents and community of George Nuttall Close.

“Sir Chris has been a good friend to Miller Homes and we were delighted he agreed to launch this very special project for us,” said Steve Garton, Sales Director. “This innovative, contemporary sculpture by artist Peter Newman received critical acclaim by press and public alike, when the prototype went on show at The Hayward Gallery on London’s Southbank last year.”

Miller Homes was delighted to appoint Futurecity, who are committed to building sustainable relationships throughout Cambridge and the Eastern Region, to develop and deliver the Skystation project which has also been actively supported by Cambridge City Council.

The circular sculpture also functions as a piece of original public seating. The contours of the work are designed to fit the reclining human figure and the work is sited outdoors, to encourage contemplation of the vast expanse of space above and beyond. This is a permanent feature for Cambridge and is the first of its kind in the UK. To find out more about the Skystation project visit www.skystationcambridge.com.

“We always try to integrate with the local community wherever we build and the Skystation will be a legacy for the residents for years to come, added Steve. “Cambridge is very much a cycling city so who better than Sir Chris to mark this notable occasion with us. We know how popular he is across the UK, as highlighted by being voted BBC Sports Personality of the Year in 2008.”

Miller Homes is building 182 houses and flats at George Nuttall Close of which nearly half are completed. This development has been extremely well received and sales figures have reflected this. The sales centre and marketing suite are open daily from 10am – 5pm so do visit, see the Skystation and view the plans at the same time.

Miller Homes has also created a park and play area which is now close to completion. It will then be offered to the council for public use and should be open in the summer.
