Works at £21m Alloa Campus Officially Started by Minister for Skills and Lifelong Learning

Miller Construction recently welcomed Keith Brown, Minister for Skills and Lifelong Learning, to cut the first sod at the £21m Alloa Campus site for Forth Valley College.
The new Alloa Campus will see its first intake of students in August 2011 and will provide state-of-the art facilities for students and the local business community. The Alloa Campus is part of Forth Valley College’s Estates Development Plans, which also include a new campus at Stirling.
Brian McQuade, Joint Managing Director, Miller Construction, said: “We are pleased to welcome Mr Brown to the site to commence the official start on site. This marks the start of an exciting chapter for Forth Valley College which in the next two years will see two new builds within their estate. As a leader in the delivery of learning environments, Miller Construction is delighted to be involved.”
Ground preparation works have been completed enabling the main works to now progress. Upon completion the campus which is being delivered under a design and build procurement route, will be able to accommodate up to 2900 learners per academic year, and will include high tech teaching areas and workshops, a gym and cafeteria.
Linda McKay, Principal, Forth Valley College, said: “We are delighted construction is now underway. It’s fantastic to think that we will have our new community campus open in August next year.
“It’s been a pleasure to have Keith Brown cut the first sod for us. Keith was also joined by a number of our construction students who will benefit from work experience on the site.”
Over the duration of the build Miller Construction will give 30 construction students practical work experience on the site as part of their course work.
Keith Brown, Minister for Skills and Lifelong Learning, said: “Forth Valley College has ambitious plans to develop and upgrade its campuses, providing education and opportunities in positive learning environments for thousands of students in Central Scotland. It’s been a pleasure to meet some of the students who will benefit from the campus and the site experience that they will gain through the practical Get Ready for Work programme will be invaluable.”
The Alloa Campus is scheduled for completion in August 2011.
