MILLER HOMES MAKES SECOND NORTH EAST LAND ACQUISITION IN TWO MONTHS
06.07.10 Company: Miller Homes
Miller Homes has completed its second land acquisition in the North East - just eight weeks after completing on Greenvale Park in Newcastle.
Located in Cramlington, Northumberland, the new development will be marketed as Alexandra Chase, with construction of 34 three and four bedroom homes due to commence in this autumn.
The announcement also follows a recent visit to the region by Miller Homes chief executive, Tim Hough, to officially unveil Greenvale Park - the first piece of land acquired by Miller Homes nationally since the turn of 2010.
John Jameson, area land director for Miller Homes North East, said: “There has been a marked upturn in the housing market both locally, and nationally, which has enabled us to relook at our acquisition strategy. As a business, the North East has been critical for us since we opened there in 1997. So, in addition to these two schemes, we are also looking at a number of other sites across the region. Basically, we are actively seeking land in the North East for the first time since 2007.
“As for Alexandra Chase – it is a prime site in a sought after area and it is a fantastic coup for us to have secured it. Despite a huge demand for family and starter homes in the area, there has been very little new build activity in Cramlington over the past few years, which was entirely due to the recession. However, this does mean that Alexandra Chase stands to be a key development for us going forward.”
Alexandra Chase is a two acre development just nine miles from Newcastle city centre. Miller aims to start construction towards the end of 2010 with the first residents taking occupation in spring 2011.
The first release is set to consist of three-bedroom semi detached properties priced from around £150,000 for an 800 sq foot home, with en-suite facilities.
