500 BROOK DRIVE WINS REGIONAL BRITISH COUNCIL FOR OFFICES AWARD
01.06.10 Company: Miller Construction
Miller Construction (UK) Ltd had reason to celebrate at the British Council for Offices (BCO) South West and South Wales Awards, when 500 Brook Drive won the Best Commercial Workplace Category.
Completed in summer 2009 for PruPrim, the £24m design and build Pharmaceutical Headquarters is located within the 180 acre Green Park in Reading.
Comprising some 115,000sq ft (net) of office accommodation set around a feature central atrium street which provides a further 7,000 sq ft of reception, foyer and tenant facility and restaurant areas, the building won due to its impressive design and having ‘ all the makings of a vibrant corporate workplace’.
The judges commended the team for its contemporary design approach, which utilises glass and steel to maximise views of the well established Green Park landscape. The judges went on to say, the attention to detail, combined with a good use of materials clearly demonstrates that all areas of the design had been thoroughly considered.
Robin Mackie, Chief Executive, Miller Construction, said: “We are delighted with this win. Our partnering principles with our clients, consultants and sub-contractors make buildings like this possible. This truly is an award for the entire team to celebrate.”
Mark Alker Stone, BCO Judging Chair for the South West of England and South Wales said: "The quality of entries this year was outstanding, with each award being hotly contested. The judges felt that the quality of the environment and the rationale behind the organisation and layout of 500 Brook Drive set it apart as an exemplary project taking the client's needs of flexible and easily adaptable space to providing a workplace that does so much more.”
500 Brook Drive will now go forward to the National BCO Awards in October.
